Corporate Controller

General Description of the position

Our client has a high growth projection for the next several years and as result is looking to add a Corporate Controller to its team. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be responsible for all the accounting and financial functions including the direction, oversight and mentorship of staff in general accounting, accounts payable and payroll. You will lead month-end process, monthly preparation of forecast analytical review of balance sheet, income and cash flow statements and assist in the annual budget process.

Responsibilities and Mission

  • Finding and developing talented people to support the Company’s strategic growth plans
    • Improving skillsets for a potential IPO (IFRS conversion) and 52-109/Sox 404 implementations
    • Invest in highly capable people who understands the business and provide the Executive team with the information necessary to run the business
    • Develop a Strong Shared Service approach and team in Montreal
  • Initiating changes within the finance function through efficient systems and processes and a continuous improvement culture
  • Improving financial reporting and adding value to the business
    • Align management reporting to business strategy
    • Develop more non-financial key performance indicators
    • Driving for relevance and brevity
  • Ensuring that the fundamentals around the finance function are solid – getting the basics right
    • Improved accuracy and reliability of financial information
    • Develop improved consolidation process enabling high level of integrity of financial statements
    • Increase credibility of Finance function with key stakeholders
    • Enabling the processing of transactions and closing the books in the most effective manner
    • Dealing effectively with the technical issues that arise from changes in the business model and M&A activities
  • Develop “Business Partnership” approach with Global business segments
    • Harmonize and ensure consistency of how financial information is presented
    • Develop monthly financial package to be provided to Corporate Group
    • Ensure integrity of Financial information sent to Corporate
  • Ensure that the Custodian role of the Finance function is “robustly fulfilled”
    • Strong focus on governance activities
    • Works with the business to ensure compliance with and effective controls are in place
    • Be the custodian of assets and value protection
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Key business partner to the CFO/VP IT in driving evolution of technology platform to position the Company to double its size in 5 years.
  • Play a key role in the financial and systems integration of acquisitions
  • Lead a team that creates, implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate

 

Required qualifications, aptitudes and experiences

  • CPA with relevant experience with at least 10 to 15 years in top accounting firm (Big-4) auditing large international companies
  • Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work
  • Experience in change management
  • Experience in Merger & Acquisition Integration
  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain control over these tasks
  • Understanding of ASPE accounting standards and strong financial reporting technical skills
  • Exceptional work ethic
