General Manager

Organization Profile:
Canadian based and privately held by the Ljubisic family, the organization produces, markets and sells its products through food-service, private-label, industrial and branded products.  Although its historic products are olives and maraschino cherries, throughout the years, the organization has diversified its product offering to other marinated products (sauerkraut and beets), salad dressings and mayonnaises.  The company has also built solid partnerships with organizations like COATICOOK ICE CREAM and PLAISIRS GASTRONOMIQUES.  CIBONA has sustained double-digit growth in the last years and is looking to double in size within the next 3 to 5 years. 

General Description of the position:
In a context of succession-planning, the successful incumbent will be responsible to develop, lead and implement the corporate strategy of the organization.  Furthermore, this senior position provides executive oversight for all aspects of the business performance of the company. This position sets the tone of the vision for company success, setting strategic direction and guiding the organizational culture.  
The successful candidate is a mature, strong, energetic, and creative leader who will build on the organization’s standard for excellence and provide strategic direction while embracing opportunities for new initiatives and entrepreneurial development. The General Manager holds overall leadership responsibility for all internal business operations
Responsibilities and Mission:
Executive Management & Senior Leadership Development
  • Lead in the setting and alignment of the vision, culture and ethical tone of the company
  • Serve as executive leader with oversight of the senior leadership team. Work closely with leaders to ensure business priorities are aligned across the organization.
  • Implement senior leadership team meeting cadence in order to develop a strong, cohesive and collaborative leadership team
  • Provide performance feedback based on established target performance criteria
  • Recruit experienced/talented leaders in support of organization/succession requirements
  • Work closely with Ljuban Ljubisic (and other family members) to ensure alignment to owner/shareholder vision and overall company performance expectations
Production & Operations
  • Provide oversight, accountability, and guidance to Cibona’s operations and production processing functions, including the manufacturing plant, equipment, logistics, and production planning areas, ensuring the manufactured products are produced on-time and that efficiency and quality standards are met, allowing for corporate objectives to be achieved.
Company Strategy & Planning
  • Lead business strategy planning ensuring alignment with short and long-term objectives. Ensure business strategy is in full alignment to owner/shareholder vision.
  • Work with Senior Leadership Team members to ensure strategic business priorities are aligned and executed across the business. Acts as final decision-maker in priority matters of escalation.
  • Ensure key organization initiatives are aligned to the overall business strategy
  • Work with finance leader to ensure cross-company budget planning efforts are in alignment to established key performance indicators
Business Community & Partnerships
  • Be a strong voice and advocate of the company with external stakeholders. Build trusted relationships with key partners
  • Enhance the Company’s reputation through participation in prioritized trade associations, government relations, and other external relationships
Required qualifications, aptitudes and experiences:
  • Minimum 10 years previous Executive level experience in a related industry
  • Extensive knowledge of the food industry and market conditions
  • Extensive experience on an operational level within a food production and transformation organization
  • Comfortable in working within an office setting and within a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work closely with the operations and provide ‘hands-on’ leadership and guidance
  • Previous experience in operational and production roles within the food industry
  • Demonstrated success in scaling-up and expanding businesses profitably
  • University degree in management, finance, economics, business administration, or any related field
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to coach and mentor
  • Fluently bilingual (French/English) – business writing, speaking and reading
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
Preferred qualifications, aptitudes and experiences:
  • Post-graduate degree – preferably MBA
  • Project Management PMI – preferred
  • Knowledge of Kaizen or Six Sigma process improvement
